Grade Calculator
Calculate your weighted class grade or find out what you need on remaining assignments.
How Grade Calculation Works
Your weighted grade is calculated by multiplying each category score by its weight percentage, summing all the products, and dividing by the total weight. For example, if homework (20%) is 95 and the midterm (30%) is 85, the weighted average so far is (95x20 + 85x30) / 50 = 89%.
The "What Do I Need?" mode works backwards: given your current weighted grade and how much of the course is completed, it calculates the minimum score required on the remaining assignments to reach your target grade. This is useful for planning study time before finals. To see how your course grades affect your overall GPA, use our GPA calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a weighted grade?
A weighted grade accounts for the relative importance of each assignment category. For example, if finals are worth 50% and homework is worth 20%, the final exam has a much larger impact on your overall grade than homework.
How is the weighted average calculated?
Multiply each category score by its weight, sum all products, then divide by the total weight. Formula: Weighted Average = Sum(score x weight) / Sum(weight). Make sure weights add up to 100% for an accurate result.
What if my weights do not add up to 100%?
The calculator still works by dividing by the actual total weight. However, for the most accurate representation of your class grade, the weights should total 100% to match your syllabus.
How is this different from a GPA calculator?
A grade calculator computes your grade for a single class based on individual assignments and categories. A GPA calculator averages grades across multiple classes, weighted by credit hours, to produce your overall Grade Point Average.
